New search tool for land owners

Published 8th Nov 2011
A new search tool on the Māori Trustee website lets visitors put in a name to find out if the Māori Trustee administers land for that person.

The Māori Trustee administers around 2000 blocks covering 100,000 hectares on behalf of Māori land owners and wants to make sure everyone with an ownership interest has the chance to be connected with their land.

As many owners have not given their contact details to the Māori Trustee, they are missing out on getting information about their land and the chance to be part of discussions about its future, as well as any income that may be generated from the land.

The new search lets owners know whether or not the Māori Trustee has their details, and if not, gives them a fast, online way to send their latest contact details.

The search also shows whether or not there is unclaimed money held in a person's Māori Trustee account.

If you think you have ownership in Māori land, you can also use the Māori Land Online search which covers all Māori land in New Zealand.
