Applications for Hansol scholarships now open

Owners and their whānau in several Māori-trustee administered blocks in Tairawhiti can now apply for Hansol scholarships offered by Ngāti Porou Whānui Forests Ltd.

The scholarships aim to support development of forestry expertise and skill among Ngāti Porou. Hansol is the Korean partner in the Ngāti Porou Hansol Forestry Joint Venture and has provided the scholarships as part of their commitment to the local community.

The scholarships offer assistance to university or tertiary students who are direct descendants of blocks participating in the joint venture.

Two scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded in 2012 and although the focus is on forestry, one of the scholarships may be awarded for general studies.

The blocks administered by Māori Trustee who participate in the joint venture are:

Closing date for the scholarships is 30 April 2012.
